Wood plaque (size 3 x 5)
Old scruffy toothbrush
Wood Sealer
Satin-finish varnish
Tack cloth

INSTRUCTIONS

Right-click (or click and hold for Mac users) on the line drawing at the bottom of this page and save it to your hard drive. Open the image in any brower or graphics program and print. This should print out the correct size for the above plaque. If using a different sized plaque, either resize the image to desirable dimension in your graphics program and then print, or use the reduce/enlarge function on a copy machine. Repeat the same procedure to print the image of the finished plaque.

Sand the plaque with the grain with 100 grit sandpaper. Remove dust with a tack cloth and apply wood sealer. Sand again and remove dust with the tack cloth.

BACKGROUND
Basecoat the plaque with Ivory. Lightly load an old scruffy toothbrush with a small amount of thinned Maple Sugar Tan. With the toothbrush almost parallel to the surface of the plaque, lightly stroke in a side to side motion with the grain of the wood until you have a faux woodgrain appearance. You can practice this on a piece of scrap paper or wood beforehand to get the effect you want. Why not just leave the wood bare, you ask? Well...because. This way's more fun :-)

DAFFODILS
Basecoat the daffodils with Crocus Yellow. Shade around the center "cups" and petals, as well as inside the "cup" with a float of Antique Gold, using the picture as a guide. Highlight around the top edges and the base of the center "cup" with Ivory. Highlight the flipped over portions of the petals with Ivory.

LEAVES
Basecoat the leaves in Seminole Green. Shade where indicated in the picture first with Dark Forest Green, then accentuate the shading with a soft float of Black. Highlight with a 1:1 mix of Apple Green and Ivory.

BULBS
Basecoat the bulbs with Raw Sienna. Again using the picture as a guide, shade first with Brown Iron Oxide and then accentuate the shading with a soft float of black. Highlight with Antique Gold and add the roots with a liner brush using a 1:1 mix of Raw Sienna and Brown Iron Oxide.

Paint the outside edge of the plaque with Seminole Green.

Spray with two coats of satin-finish spray varnish, allowing ample drying time between coats.
